For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this stickered, never-inked circa 1949 Waterman Taperite Crusader Fountain Pen, fitted with its original semi-hooded 14K Fine Flex gold nib. Remarkably, this pen remains exactly as it left the factory, complete with the original Waterman barrel sticker and having never been filled with ink.

This pen was acquired as part of a significant purchase from a long-established stationery store in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where nearly 200 New Old Stock vintage fountain pens and pencils were discovered. This Crusader is a standout example from that find.

Finished in a rich dark blue, the barrel retains a crisp, deeply impressed imprint reading “WATERMAN’S MADE IN U.S.A.” The chrome-colored trim is bright and untouched, showing no wear. Most notably, the original Waterman factory sticker remains affixed to the barrel, clearly identifying the model number (517), nib designation (Fine Flex), and original retail price of $5.00. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel.

The pen measures approximately 5 1/8 inches capped and 5 7/8 inches posted, with a comfortable weight of .60 ounces—well balanced and representative of Waterman’s post-war design.

The lever and pressure bar assembly has been carefully cleaned and lightly oiled. The filling system has been water-tested and operates smoothly and exactly as intended, while preserving the pen’s never-inked status.

Fitted with its original 14K Fine Flex nib, the iridium tipping is in excellent condition and measures approximately .58mm with digital calipers, consistent with a true fine point and matching the original factory sticker. The nib has never been inked and remains untouched, preserving its New Old Stock integrity.

It is increasingly rare to encounter truly uninked, stickered vintage fountain pens—especially examples that have survived more than seven decades in this level of preservation. While the Taperite Crusader may not be Waterman’s highest-priced model, finding one in genuine Mint, never-inked, stickered condition is exceptional. This is a wonderful opportunity to add a historically authentic and beautifully preserved Waterman to any serious vintage pen collection.
