For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this 2002 Pelikan M400 Souverän Fountain Pen in the Red Stripe Barrel/Black Cap, fitted with a 14K two-tone Fine nib. This example has been gently used and is presented in Near Mint to Mint condition.

Produced in Germany by Pelikan, the M400 Red-Stripe features Pelikan’s signature resin barrel with vibrant translucent red striping that allows you to view the ink level at a glance. The color is rich and warm, beautifully contrasted by the black resin cap and section, creating a look that is both traditional and striking. Gold-plated trim—including the clip and cap bands—adds a refined finishing touch. The M400 Red-striped Pelikan started production in 2002 and is still in production today. This particular pen is especially desirable, as it features the two-chick Pelikan cap logo, a detail that was discontinued in 2003, making this an early and collectible example from the model’s production run.

The cap and barrel display a beautifully polished resin. The pen is free from cracks, chips, nicks, or repairs. The gold-plated clip and cap bands are crisp, bright, with no wear, complementing the red and black barrel and black cap. The cap banding is stamped “PELIKAN · SOUVERÄN · GERMANY”. The cap threads securely to the barrel every time. There are no monograms or personalizations. The pen measures 4 7/8 inches capped, 5 3/4 inches posted, and weighs .53 ounces, offering excellent balance and comfort in hand.

The pen is fitted with a 14C/585 solid gold two-tone Medium nib, which measures approximately .82mm at the tipping when measured with digital calipers. The nib has been dip-tested to produce the writing sample and delivers a smooth, confident medium line, ranging from approximately .62mm to .81mm, depending on one's hand pressure. The writing sample shown in the listing images was created using this exact pen with Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink.
