For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this Circa 2011 Sheaffer Prelude “University” Prototype Fountain Pen in White lacquer with 23K electroplated gold trim, fitted with a two-tone Medium stainless steel nib. This example remains Mint, New Old Stock, never inked, and is complete with its original box, Sheaffer literature, plastic sleeve, two ink cartridges, and unused converter.

This is an exceptionally scarce Sheaffer Prelude prototype — part of a limited “University” concept program in which colors were designed to coordinate with select U.S. college themes for campus bookstores. The program was ultimately never brought to market, and these prototypes were never released to the public. As such, surviving examples are extraordinarily difficult to obtain and seldom appear for sale.

The pen features a White lacquered cap and barrel, complemented by 23K gold electroplated trim. (Note: This model is not to be confused with the 1997 Prelude Model with the Rose Gold plated trim and monotone gold plated steel nib.) The cap band is engraved with the vintage “Sheaffer’s” font and “USA,” and the end cap is fitted with a white pearlized jewel. There are no monograms or personalizations. The finish and trim are pristine, free from scratches, brassing, or wear.

The measurements of this Sheaffer Prelude are as follows:

  • 1.11 ounces

The two-tone stainless steel nib is a Medium, measuring approximately .67mm when measured with digital calipers. The back of the section is stamped with the gold "M," designating it a medium nib point. It has never been inked, preserved intentionally in brand-new condition due to the pen’s prototype status and rarity. The pen accepts Sheaffer cartridges (two included) or the accompanying unused piston converter.

For the serious Sheaffer collector — particularly those focused on the Prelude line — this is the type of piece that may only surface once in a great while. A true pre-production prototype in untouched condition, representing a chapter of Sheaffer history that never officially reached the marketplace.

It is Mint. Never inked. Highly desirable and exceptionally scarce.
