For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Beautifully Restored Circa 1920s John Holland Jade Green Celluloid Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Lever Bar, and 14K NIB. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen. This John Holland is a standard size that measures 4 3/8" in length capped and 5 3/4" posted.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the John Holland logo at the very top of the cap. The gold filled cap banding is in excellent condition with no brassing. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "JOHN HOLLAND MAKER CINTI. PAT. SEPT 7, 1915" The celluloid is a spinach jade color - the center of the cap has a hint of darkening but overall a very clean fountain pen. There are no monograms or personalizations to the cap or barrel.
The John Holland Filling System is a lever filler that works great. I added a new rubber sac and now the filling unit operates flawlessly.
The John Holland NIB is a 14K NIB. This Nib is very firm yet writes very smooth. The actual writing portion of the 14K Holland NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .69mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample, this NIB writes with a fine to a medium stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .58mm and the medium stroke measures .83mm when measured with digital calipers under medium to firm pressure. The sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
John Holland Fountain Pens were based out of Cincinnati, Ohio and were made of high-quality materials. I grade this Holland Ringtop in Fine to Very Fine Condition only due to the very minor darkening to the center of the cap otherwise, I would grade it excellent. A great pen with Ohio history - it is ready to write or just add to writing arsenal collection.
